Organic vs. Sustainable Solutions & Troutner Farms LLC

Is organic farming always sustainable? In todays world of modern farming it is easy to be mislead into what is truly organic farming and if it is in fact sustainable. Troutner Farms understand the confusion and questions that arise when planning for this caliber of agricultural management.

Sustainable farming practices are not necessarily organic, and organic farming practices are not necessarily sustainable. Sustainable farming practices are all about growing food without depleting natural resources. USDA defines Sustainable farming as agriculture that: Enhances the natural resources upon which society lives. It efficiently uses resources by natural controls and biocycles. We feel it enhances life for farmers and those consuming the products. Also worth noting, it is in fact economically viable.

To be certified organic farmers must follow strict guidelines when growing their crops. Soil management must be a top priority, no use of unauthorized synthetic fertilizers. Organic crops are maintained without the use of chemical pesticides. Only organic seeds are used to grow organic crops. Genetic engineering is strictly prohibited. Food cannot be altered using genetic engineering. This means organic foods are inherently free of (GMO’s).

We believe through strategic planning and with trusted methods we have developed, it is possible to bring the concepts together to have a profitable working organic and sustainable farm of your dreams now!
