Irrigation and Runoff Systems & Troutner Farms LLC
Irrigation water runoff systems are one of the most important steps we can take as farmers for a sustainable future. The way we see it at Troutner Farms is that preventing Soil and nutrient runoff from entering our water shed systems is the most proactive step you as a farmer can take to protect the environment and the future of farming.
Nitrogen and phosphorus are the main pollutants found in irrigation runoff, they are applied in several different ways, such as the form of commercial fertilizer, animal manure, or industrial wastewater. These pollutants can also enter runoff from crop residues, irrigation water runoff, wildlife, and atmospheric deposition.
Troutner Farms has developed and implemented nutrient management systems to mitigate impacts on water quality by mapping and documenting fields, crop types, soil types, and water bodies. Developing realistic crop yield projections, conducting soil tests and nutrient analyses of manures and or sludges applied. Identifying other significant field features such as highly erodible soils, subsurface drains, and shallow aquifers. We also specialize in applying fertilizers and nutrients based on realistic yield goals using precision agriculture techniques.
Bioswales are a great option to integrate into virtually any scale of farmland. Typically a landscape element, Troutner Farms realizes the capacity that these systems can handle. Designed to concentrate or remove debris and pollution out of runoff water. They consist of a swaled drainage course with gently sloping sides and filled with vegetation. Essentially a filter for the environment, and simply a first layer of defense.
